Background info on "Nkuruba Orphanage Project" in Uganda
The mission is hoping to build an orphanage with an adjoining school and medical clinic, housing roughly 100 orphans. The land has already been bought and is situated 20kms south of fort Portal (Western Uganda). The project is initially proposed for three years during which time the orphanage, school and clinic will be built and in full operation by the end of that time.
The main objectives of a group of 10 - 15 volunteers would be actual construction of the orphanage and the school and clinic. Although the actual construction may be completed after some time the project could still provide an ideal opportunity for those wanting to do a placement working in an orphanage, as a student teacher or gain medical experience, consequently establishing a permanent on going relationship with the organization.
The site of the orphanage is very close to a local community campsite at which the volunteers can stay, providing they bring their own tents. This campsite is a well established tourist campsite with full facilities and complete menu. The volunteers could stay there at a negotiated price with the manager of the campsite - Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve.
