With the establishment of the State of Israel the Hebrew Medical Society in the Land of Israel (HMA) became the Israel Medical Association (IMA). During the first years of the young State most of the organization’s efforts were dedicated to consolidating the status of the Israeli physician in the public sector and to building and defining its relations with the Histadrut, The General Federation of Labor in Israel. Despite its focus on employment benefits and wages the IMA continued its activities in the scientific-medical area, through the publication of the periodical Harefuah and the organization of professional conferences. It also supported the establishment of the medical school of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. IMA with international issues including humanitarian aid.

Father and Son bond in Myanmar

 Some fathers and sons bond at a basketball game, others prefer a game of chess. Prof. Pinchas Nemet and his son, Dr. Arieh Nemet, opted for a more unconventional bonding activity. The two Israeli ophthalmologists joined a medical mission, organized by Australian physicians, to Myanmar.

Israeli physicians well received by UN medical organizations

 The seminar, called 'International Health for Israeli Physicians', was designed to expose the Israeli doctors to UN and related international agencies that have a significant medical component, like the WHO, UNICEF, UNAIDS, the International Red Cross Federation, the World Heart Federation, International Union Against Cancer, the International Labor Organization, and others.
